Intel Core i9-7980XE 18-Core Processor Coming To Crush AMD Threadripper

We all knew that Intel was coming out with Skylake-X Processors, but did you know that there were going to be available in new 12-core, 14-core, 16-core and 18-core configurations? According to a leak over at VideoCardz, the upcoming Intel Core i9 X-Series processor family for the Intel X299 platform are going to be monsters with high core counts, up to 44 lanes of PCIe off the CPU and updated Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0.

Intel Skylake X

The flagship part will be the Intel Core i9-7980XE with 18-cores and 36-threads, but clock speeds, pricing and launch date are all unknown. It looks like the TDP on the Intel Skylake-X processors will be up to 165W TDP, which is actually pretty impressive for an 18-core processor. Intel will also be offering Kaby Lake-X processors for this platform according to the leaked information, so that means the Intel X299 platform will support your source of 4 to 18 processing cores!
