Telltale Games Removed from Steam as Studio Closes

Telltale Games makes some interesting games that are based on popular TV shows like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones among other titles. The developer is going out of business entirely after laying off its staff and working through the shutdown process with creditors. Word is now surfacing that some Telltale games are being removed from Steam and are no longer available to purchase.

Games that are no longer on Steam include The Walking Dead, Back to the Future, and Tales of Monkey Island. Other Telltale titles like Batman, Guardians of the Galaxy, Tales from the Borderlands, and Game of Thrones are still available to purchase.

Somehow Telltale did reportedly come up with the cash to pay for assets like trademarks and copyrights as well as source code. Perhaps the company thinks those items will be worth money after the closure is finished. Telltale is going to end all benefits for former staff on November 30 reports IGN.

That means no more COBRA health insurance after that date for terminated workers. The class action suit is still presumably ongoing against the company for failure to give staff adequate notice under California law.
